We realised that the World Qualifying event would be high in numbers but we were delighted to see so many drivers make the effort and travel across to Skeg Vegas for our two-dayer event. Credit to all racers who put in the miles but especially to both Paul Trewin who drove up from Devon whilst our McRebel Rod Webster made the journey down from Forfar.
With so many cars booked into appear split grids were necessary and once again Masters started his final weekend as a blue grader in fine style by taking the opening heat win. Reigning Skeggy Double Champ Mark Rodgers proved his dominance in heat two whilst Granddaddy Hawes quickly settled back into the old routine and stormed around in the final heat to take the chequered ahead of Robertson. It was a fantastic graded final and although Masters made an early break he was being wound in by the flying 52 machine of Robertson who had already managed to break his own lap record in the previous race. A fantastic battle between Etheridge, Rubery and McCarthy ensued whilst Spittle has also having a superb day holding off the likes of Rodgers and Passey. Laps rapidly disappeared for Robertson and although he did close in on race leader Masters, the 25 machine wasn’t going to let this one out of his grasp and become the first driver of 2008 to win two Feature Finals—Well Done Anthony.
Other notable drivers throughout the afternoon have to go to Kev Wilton who has really changed his driving style this year and is competing with the best of the bunch, not afraid to use the front bumper along the way which is fantastic. Fellow Team Cannock member Dave Benton is also on a mission and racked up a fourth in heat two and fellow white top Paul Trewin is also becoming a regular name in the top ten. Both Kelvin Passey and Mike Kingston are adapting well and putting in some very impressive times and are definitely worth keeping an eye on in the near future.
After debuting a spectacular paint scheme for his first meeting of ‘08 it was a real shame to see the 615 racer take a huge hit and require medical attention. Fortunately Rod was all ok and out of hospital and ready for a decent drink whilst watching Monday’s meeting. We hope he is feeling better soon and look forward to seeing this stunning 615 rebel back out on track for some top results.
