Another fantastic meeting with some excellent racing around one of our favourite ovals. Although the weather was a little miserable for the Bank Holiday event which reflected in the crowd, you certainly didn’t disappoint those who had braved the elements. Once again we were wowed by Anthony Masters who was ready for another clean sweep. He made it six out of six after two strong heat wins and just as we thought he was on for the Feature, Nathan Etheridge scuppered his chances after a spectacular drive from the 844 Rebeller he attempted a true last bend lunge but unfortunately it sent both cars wide and enabled our World Champion to say thank you very much and take his first win of the year, well done Adam. Masters deserved a pat on the back for holding onto it and claiming second inches ahead of Murphy. A superb race and true Rebelling action. Masters didn’t loose faith and returned to the winners rostrum in our Grand National event which was slightly less hectic than the previous week and we didn’t see a waved yellow all afternoon. A special mention to Paul Trewin and Dave Benton who drove their hearts out in the National event and after a pep talk on track Benton was determined to take a top three and so he did - his best race of his career by far, he didn’t even let Masters or Rubery past without a challenge on the rear bumper. A brilliant drive also by Sutton who just managed to sneak past the flying 211 machine in the closing stages. Steve Pollitt is another driver who has certainly benefited from a re-jig over the winter period and we saw the 70 driver on excellent form all day. Great to see some new faces with Damien McCrystal, Gavin Harris and Kev Hawes all making their debut and settling in pretty quickly indeed. It was great to see Nick Spicer and Norman Hicks back after a break and they too didn’t take long to blow the cobwebs away.
It’s all change in the Spring Nationals as Dave Benton shoots to the top of the charts after such a fantastic meeting closely followed by Anthony Masters and Paul Trewin, knocking last weeks leader Ian Bell down to fourth – will it all change again after round three? |
