Another excellent start to the season and considering there were no National Points on offer it was a decent turnout for the Season Opener.
As usual we had some fantastic new paint schemes and we definitely won’t miss Dave Benton on track as they have spent lots of hours in the workshop prepping the car for ’08. Keith Barnard also debuted his new purchase and another fancy paint job along with Dan Cooper, along a fabulous new colour for the Driver of the Year 2007 Vicki Kingston. Plenty of photos were taken before the first race and are featured on our new website.
Anthony Masters couldn’t have wished for a better start to his 2008 season and becomes only the sixth person to ever win four out of four races. He was on excellent form all day and after taking that opening heat win, outwitting Barnard and Bointon in the closing stages, he knew he had the car and the ability and he was away – congratulations to Anthony, not only does he top the meeting points chart he obviously leads the way in the World Wide Qualifiers.
Keith Murphy was wishing that Anthony Masters hadn’t made it out for meeting number one as he claimed the runner up spot all afternoon, forced to follow the 25 machine under the chequered. It was a valiant effort in the Feature and perhaps one more lap and it would have been a different story but still a very strong start by the 80 superstar. After a cracking two heats and finale, claiming three fourth places, it was a shame Etheridge was forced to retire in the National but he wasn’t alone and after a very hectic race we saw only thirteen finishers and the first yellow flag of the afternoon for a stranded Barnard machine.
Sunday also saw round one of the Spring Nationals and this is very interesting, proving that it is all about finishing and every point matters. After a fantastic debut by Ian Bell, he leads the way in the Spring National Championship and is ready to hold onto his lead this weekend. To score 43 points overall at your first meeting is fabulous so well done to Ian. Dave Pennington also had an excellent afternoon avoiding all the chaos and also racking up four finishes and he currently resides in the third spot. Will it all change this weekend or will the white tops hold on?
